Recently I’ve been in a strange situation. I was looking for extra help for an urgent project, so I reached out to some friends who I believe could help me. They showed interest in the collaboration (at least it seemed so to me) and confirmed they could give me a hand, or connect me with the right person.
I took their words at face value and was waiting for them to get back to me. But they never did, not until I followed up with them, asking how it was going.
Worse still, it was extremely difficult to reach them. Messaged them. Messages were not “seen”. Called them. Calls were not picked up. It felt like I was left “hanging to a cliff” guessing what would unfold. It was tiring and disappointing an experience.
Now I’m resorting to your wisdom on how to handle this situation.
What is the right thing to do?
If somebody doesn’t do what they said they would do? If somebody agree to help you, but don’t do it, or do a terrible job that you wish you hadn’t asked them for help in the first place?
At least now I know somebody will no longer be the first person I will ever share future opportunities.
