Facebook’s latest hack exposed information of 50 million accounts

If you were logged out of Facebook, here is the reason.
Yesterday Facebook announced a massive security issue that exposed the personal information of at least 50 million accounts!

50 million Facebook user accounts hacked

According to Facebook’s announcement, the hackers were able to steal Facebook access tokens from code attached to the “View As” feature. Access tokens are the digital keys the browsers use to keep users logged in without re-entering the password. Your access token can be used to take over your account as if you’re using it.

As a result, Facebook reset the tokens of the 50 million affected accounts, along with additional 40 million accounts that had used “View As” during the past year. That’s about 90 million resets in total.

In the latest development, Facebook admitted that the problem would also affect its “Facebook Login” service. That means the stolen tokens can be used to get into other Facebook apps like Instagram as well as third-party ones that use “Facebook Login” service.

If you were logged out of Facebook, I recommend you update your password to a more secure one, even though Facebook said they had taken the necessary action. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
